Almost all of us in our little town are giving a sigh of relief today. Today was our first full day to enjoy power. We have survived since Saturday withour power. It is amazing what you learn and realize you take for granted. Here are a few random things Ike taught us:
~You can cook biscuits ON THE TOP of the stove
~If desperate you can hang your clothes to dry from your carport
~You can use Tide in your bathtub and make your own washer aggitator with your arm
~Sleeping with the windows open can be cool and a bit spooky
~Things get really quiet with no electricity
~You can hook up a computer and printer under the hood of your car!!! My husband printed ebay labels!!
~Lots and lots of people were hungry for a hot meal
~Ice, bread and Gas were scarce and you find all kinds of ways to save it.
~Its only food, but throwing big amounts away is really gut renching
~People at our local mushroom farm have lost their jobs...becuse the farm lost everything and it takes 72 days to grow a mushroom! I had no idea and so many work there!
~Men even jumprope for entertainment :)
~Im still scared of the dark and the town was so spooky at night~Thank the Lord for the moon!
~I learned I have no control with little debbies around when going stir crazy!
~I LEARNED I AM SO LUCKY TO STILL HAVE a house, all of my family, lots of kindness in our town, a clean refer and freezer, LIGHTS and cool air, and a few days of playing with my kids. I am so blessed.
What did Ike teach you?
Love you all. Continue to pray for so many without a home, loss of family and homes and those who work to restore our lives back to normal.

Love your list....
Ike taught me a lot of the things it taught you!
- We live in a very spoiled country. We take power, clean water and food for granted!
- Taking a COLD shower can send you into cardiac arrest!
- I can go 5 days without shaving. Period. No mo!
- I'm way more addicted to coffee and coffee creamer than I would like to admit! I protected my coffee creamer like I protected my own kids!
- It's hard to read by candlelight!
- I HATE raking!
- Ike also taught me that I'm in love with my garbage man! When is the last time you told your garbage man you appreciated him? I did on my second trip around town, chasing him with my STINKY food!
- Two loaves of bread doesn't go very far when you eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
- Last, but not least...we live in a wonderful community! I'm so proud to live where we do!
Happy Friday!
Your list is SOOO true!
-The silence from no power was almost eerie at night
-I am sick of sandwhiches-or anything with bread
-Very true about the cardiac arrest from cold showers :o)
-Whomever created candles are wonderful-i had them everyswhere!
-I did use the time to make a WHOLE entire book of file folder games!
-I got to spend some much needed time with my new hubby :o) And it wasnt spent in front of the tv!
-I learned how to be "neighborly"...is that a word? We cooked out together and shared our bread and water
I learned a lot this week about just exactly what I can live without. LOVE YA!
We all learned so much from Ike!
-After serving close to 900 meals in front of Walmart last night, I learned we have alot people in our area that need food and Jesus.
-My girls can be crafty when there is nothing else to do!
-It is nice to be in the "quiet" without TV or radio. It is just peaceful.
-I just love my husband for getting that generator when I asked for it last summer.
-With not much to do, Ike caused me to gain a few pounds! YUCK! All that bread and snacks I bought at the last minute! Back on the diet Monday.
-Like Carrie, I was excited to see the garbage man but I didn't chase him down!
-And, it was so EXCITING to see those Entergy trucks in a convoy going through town. It was like they were heroes coming to save the day!
Amen sister!!!
-I am grateful for friends who stay with me during a storm so I wouldn't be by myself with my three kiddos. Thank you so much!!!
-I got to do a jigsaw puzzle, when was the last time you got to do something so silly but fun!!!
-the zoo is a great place for evacuees!!
- I realized how much i need my friends!!
I am in tears gals....loving hearing from my sweet small town friends...LOVE YOU ALL...MIss you Kyley and Jennifer
Ike hasn't affected me (thankfully) but I am especially impressed with the computer labels and the car...glad things are back to normal! :)
Carrie
I agree with all you ladies, Ike showed me how much I take things like electricity for granted! I definitely spent a lot of "quality" time with the family through all this, and still am my poor aunt in Houston is still without power! Didn't know that about the mushroom plant, that's bad!
Glad you are safe and have had some of life's comforts restored...
Between Gustav and Ike...I hope the season is over, so everyone can regroup and rebuild!
I've learned...
-- how crazy I can get when in survival mode
-- how sweet so many of my friends/family are when taking me in while without lights
-- how sad I am for all those who have lost homes
-- how much i LOVE my washer and dryer
-- how blessed I am to have a totally comfortable life
-- that you CAN lose your electricity for a week or more (people kept telling me this, but I it's 2008 -- can't they just touch a button and make them all come back on?)
-- how dependent I am on TV, housework, going and blowing....it can be boring sitting outside day after day
-- how expensive generators are!!! (we don't have one, but will in the near future)
I'm sure there are so many more.....Love you Lace
how fortunate we all are in our everyday lives and how amazing the human spirit is..selfless individuals helping strangers..what a heartwarming sight.. how awesome our TX neighbors are who have been helping us get our house back in shape...and how much we miss our family and are so grateful that they are safe. i sure hope denise gets to keep her job???
Hey Girl!
Still thinking about you and hoping things are getting back to normal. Praying for you!
I'm so glad that you fared well and have electricity once again.
It is amazing how many things we take for granted until we have to learn to live without them...I experienced many of the same feelings as everyone else that posted...
...one other thing I learned was that it's not a good thing to let scraps go down the drain when you can't run the garbage disposal...poor Doc had to stick his hand down in there and clean it out a time or two :0
So glad you have your power back on. Grandma Jho, Bert and Greg Bingham are still without.
We have house damage. I drive down the streets and realize things here are FAR from normal and will be tat way for a while. I have several close friends that have lost their homes. It's saddening.
I feel so blessed to have spent the last 2 weeks with my girls and family.
I am reminded that stuff is just stuff.
I am thankful that I still have a home but praying for my friends that don't.
I am praying for the children in my district that lost their homes.
I am thankful that Lacy writes great blogs and I am glad that her electricity is back on!!!
Your friend in League City...Laura :)
You poor thing!!! We had an earthquake the other night and I got all upset and then I just caught myself and remembered all of you guys still dealing with such
a mess!!!! We are still praying and
donating!!!!
M ^..^
Wow, you helped me realize how blessed I am. I can't say I felt the effects of IKE at all comparted to you. I live in Utah so I pretty much just saw things on the news. My sister sent me an email today with picture from IKE and I've decided the news did not do it justice. The pictures from the e-mail were much worse than what I saw on the news. I'm glad you are safe and thanks for reminding me of my blessings.
O.K. I am dying to hear all about Sada's weekend. I had such a great time with you and Linda. Give me a shout out!!!
